UCCS/CC Crosstown Collaborative: DREAM[SENSE]NVIRONMENT

February 27, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

DREAM[SENSE]NVIRONMENT

This annual joint collaborative venture by the composition and performance faculties of Colorado College and the Univerity of Colorado, Colorado Springs explores various works around the themes of dreams, sensation and environments. Leos Janáček’s innovative Cappricio was written for a pianist who lost his hand in WWI, yet dreamed of again performing. Anthony Tan’s On the Sensations of Tone posits that it may be possible to achieve a purely sensorial experience of timbre divorced from cultural and sociological influences, while Glen Whitehead’s work uses environmental interaction as theme and material. Iddo Aharony’s trio explores the space between stones and dreams, between distance and closeness, through words of exile.  And the work of Ofer Ben-Amots is related to the natural environment: the psalmodic text describes an idyllic biblical scene of “green pastures” and “quiet waters,” while the Bulgariana is based on a shepherd’s song and dance from the Balkan mountains.

Faculty performers from both schools include Haleh Abghari – soprano, Sue Grace – piano, Colin McAllister – guitar/conductor, Jane Rigler – flute, Glen Whitehead – trumpet along with special guests Andy Stevens – clarinet, Karen Kinzie – violin, Karine Garibova – violin, John Kinzie – percussion and more.
